Controversy by April-Moon Controversy by April-Moon
A woman holding a sign at Rutgers University.

She was surprisingly nice to me despite the fact that I am atheist.

Honestly you have to be true on why you want to go back to earth.

"You Have To Be Roman Catholic To Get To Heaven."

No, you don't.

As a Protestant I always though Catholics and us were brothers and sisters in Christ (I'm also a religious inclusive kind of guy). Imagine my surprise when I was told otherwise by Catholics. Protestants have done the same thing too, but I was kind of hoping we'd moved beyond that. I guess not. Here's hoping the next generation does better.

Thanks for the picture.

Aye, I sort of pity elderly people.. they're so conservative.. and stubborn as all hell. Stuck to the importance of tradition, when really tradition doesn't matter much.

Thanks. From talking to the lady in the picture, I'd say she's actually a nice person, but she's completely brainwashed with ultra-conservative ideas.

Ah yes gotta love the close minded Catholics. Everything they say has to be right. It doesn't help that one tried to burn my girlfriend because she's Pagan.

Yeah. There's a reason I refuse to become a Christian. I believe the Jesus lived, but that's as far as that goes.

My Goodness, I hope I never get into heaven if it is full of evil hateful people, such as we are constantly told to be the case. I mean not only pukes like this one, but everyone in Prison believes in God. It really sounds like a bad neighborhood. Nice job, capturing of the moment.

Nah, actually people in the area were rather pissed about it. The picture was taken at Rutgers University, which is a pretty liberal place. I'm a commuter, and my town is Republican and much more conservative.

Bible clearly states that as long as you believe in Jesus and accept him as Savior, you've already got a spot in Heaven waiting for you.

What saddens me is how a faith can be so divided. This one does confessions, that version doesnt, this one sticks to the Lent rules, this one doesn't..... the list goes on and on, and what's aggrevating is that the different sides will point and shout "YOU'RE WRONG!" at each other until their blue in the face. It's petty conflicts like that which unfortunately turn alot of people off from Christianity, whether it's to atheism or other religions.

My religious views and how i interpret the Bible conflict with some modern day beliefs. For example, people think God killed Onan for jerking off; NOPE! God killed Onan for disobeying the "duty to a dead brother" law. Then there's the whole "God hates gays" thing... not getting into it 'cause I'm not in the mood to start a war. Then there's the whole... "What if it was translated wrong???" thing.... again, I'm just going by the translation I've got because that's the only version I've got and I can't read Greek/Hebrew.

Bleh... I'm rambling again....

BTW, in case you were wondering, I'm Protestant/Methodist.

I agree. I think people focus too much on dogma. They should really focus on the great advice that can be found in a lot of religions. Love thy neighbor. Thou shalt not steal. That's pretty good advice. Buddhism has good advice too. Nonmaterialism. Balance in all things. Compassion for others. Though I am atheist, I like the words of wisdom in religion. I just don't tend to like how most people interpret the different religions and also I have more a scientific view of creation. But hey, everyone has their own way of doing things.

You should create your own religion -- Nasserism.

lol... don't a lot of other religions besides Roman Catholic believe in heaven. What was she trying to convey by saying that? To me she is saying something like "to go to heaven you have to be Roman Catholic" which would go against the dignity of the human person which would make her a hypocrite... she says she believes in a religion but goes against its teachings

Yeah, there are other religions that believe in heaven. Judaism and Islam believe in heaven of course. So do Hinduism and Buddhism.

I'm an atheist with some agnostic tendencies, so I don't really believe in heaven, though I think it could exist.

That must be hard for you. My parents are Buddhist, and they accept my lack of religion. I do follow Buddhist philosophy though.

That's probably why I like it so much.

However, it does believe in reincarnation, karma, nirvana, heaven, and hell, so technically it is a religion.

I'm Christian.

just....christian. I don't like affliating with churches very much, because what I fine silly is each group says the other is wrong, when all in all, the point of christianity is to just to accept Jesus as your personal savior...

people complicate things too much. God knows whats in our hearts.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound preachy there. :3 Opnions are our own, right?

Nice you say? Hmm..... everyone like that was a jerk to me. Maybe she she was tired of screaming at every other person who walked by and her voice became hoarse so she couldn't yell at you.

Perhaps. Although she didn't do a lot of screaming. It was mostly other people who were screaming at her. But it made sense. She and the other guy with her were saying really offensive things. The guy with her said, "The covenant is over!" to a Jewish person wearing a yarmulke.

This whole religous 'battle' seems so hypocritical to me. I think it's just about time we accept each other and move on, but of course that is not going to happen in my life time.

There are no easy answers. I'm sure we would all like to hear some kind of conflict resolution, take home some universal moral from something like this, but in reality, we all have face situations that are uncomfortable and difficult to process.

WOW, that's different. XD;;; At University of Tennessee, we get Baptist people with huge signs listing all of the sinners.

Being born a Roman Catholic in East Tennessee (not exactly practicing XD, however), makes one in the minority and being told YOU'RE the one going to hell. XDDDD

Rutgers has all types of religions. We have lots of Islamic students, Buddhists, Jews, Hindus, Christians -- you name it, we've got it. And every one of these people were offended.

Hah. I wonder what people gain from this. Maybe they think they're somehow saving people from going to hell or something, but they're just so damn ignorant! They think they know the secrets of the universe and can push them on everyone around them. Every time I see one of these people I usually mess with them and say stuff like "what's a heaven" and "Can't I just buy tickets on ebay?" and "ooooh, is satan there? I here he's cool!" XD
